God Bless You With HIMSELF?
The Reason Jesus Came? (The Reason For Christmas?)
Isaiah 53:3–5 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Read the context: Isaiah 53
Ponder:
? There is debate about who this is describing. But who do you see in these verses?
? Why might some people say it is not Jesus Christ?
? How does this description contrast with how many non-believers imagine Jesus to be?
jne: Of course there are many caricatures of Jesus Christ in our world. Other than people who simply deny Jesus existence, ideas about Jesus span from meek and mild, doing good, loving everybody, to arrogant, hypocritical, judgmental, misleading, and all sorts of variations. Today, it seems that Jesus is trivialized more and more every day, but especially so on the two days that are supposed to represent Him best. Christmas and Easter, celebrate Jesus birth, death and resurrection with commercial extravaganza and bunny rabbits.
Perhaps no person in history has been as misunderstood as Jesus Christ. Take some time to seriously and sincerely ponder what these verses say about Jesus Christ. Think about the reality that Jesus endured all of this for you, and because of you. God actually became one of us for the express purpose of dying in our place, so that He could forgive the sin of everyone who admits their sin and believes what what the Bible says about Who this God-Man is and what He has done for us. This Christmas God has made everything possible and necessary to Bless us with HIMSELF!!! Will you ask Him to Bless you?
